Demons Departing

When demons are cast out,
they may go arguing with each other,
as they always do,
disputing their turf,
and which ones
have loftier positions

They may scream and whine and howl,
as they always do,
they may curl up
intending not to move

But they’ll go anyway,
dissolving even as they speak,
their threats and bludgeons
dissolving with them.
They’ll leave the field in blessed silence,
so clear that you can hear a dewdrop fall.
