The Scope of Being

And when I glimpse that I am
perfectly companioned,
perfectly mentored,
provided with my perfect place

When I glimpse the scope of being
that Spirit has ordained for me,
is it surprising
that I should look with puzzlement
on all these objects of the day,
that I should wonder
why their particulars
would even matter?

If I look through, though,
to what I really care about,
I see that each of these —
the objects of my daily life —
must be embraced within
the wondrous promises,
must be lit up, reclaimed, redeemed,
must stand as proof
of everything I’ve glimpsed is true.

A Time of Power

This is a time of power,
this is a time of jubilee
from all your faults —
you don’t need to repeat them
anymore. You don’t need to
pay homage to your past mistakes
by making them once more again today

This is a time of freedom
and the sweet release that comes
from simple pure repentance
and from standing up again
in the resultant clarity
of who you really are,
to make amends
in a way that really heals,
to set things right
from this new place of strength.

Places of Gratitude

My places of gratitude are many —
this chair, this lamp, this dark night,
comfort of companionship
and this vast realm of thought
where music can bring images
and luminous ideas can dart
in swift, branching lines,
delineate new order
and make a framework
for understanding everything.

Light on the water

Light on the water
teaches me to move,
teaches me to think of myself
not as one thing, in one place,
but as the fluid impulse of the moment —
eternally what I am,
just now the beam that dances
on the water’s face.

Mine

I find my center —
humming of a quiet wheel,
gyroscopic balance

I can be here, poised,
and nothing of the whirring
pulls me off course
because I now own
all requisite components

I am mine
and my heart is full of sky.

Into the City

When you’re coming across the land
towards the city — the barren, arid land
from which the city can be seen afar,
when you’re riding through the heat,
clouds of dust around you,
we will not wait for your approach
from within the city’s walls

We will send messengers to greet you.
They will wash your feet, robe and crown you,
bring you celebrated into the city
so you will know how to be with us,
so you’ll be included in our peace.

Sun and moon

For one moment the sun today
looked like the moon last night —
white disk with clouds around it

A moment later
light flooded out of the circle,
the limit overcome, the essence revealed.
